The MXL5KP16CA is a robust and reliable TVS diode. It is suitable for protecting sensitive electronics from transient voltage spikes and ESD in most spaces, including entertainment and gaming devices, communications systems, IT and networking, wireless devices, medical electronics, and test and measurement systems.The working principle of the MXL5KP16CA is based on its low capacitance junction diode structure. This structure ensures maximum protection from transients and ESD. The diode has a built-in diode with breakdown voltage of 14V and a clamping voltage 18V. Its fast response time of 5 nanoseconds and low capacitance rating enables it to absorb and confine surge energy up to 500 watts when used in low downstream voltages.In applications with high downstream voltages, the MXL5KP16CA can be connected in parallel with other diodes of different types. This allows for effective clamping of steep increase in voltage transients. The extra protection is due to the fact that the diode can absorb and confine surge energy up to 1500 watts.In an electrical system, the MXL5KP16CA can be connected in series between the sensitive devices and the power source. When a transient voltage occurs, the MXL5KP16CA absorbs and clamps the voltage back to a safe level. This ensures that the sensitive device is not damaged and prevents permanent damage to the components.The MXL5KP16CA has a non-polarized construction which makes it suitable for use in AC and DC applications.
