Application Field

The MXSMCG170A devices, which are used in high-speed data line applications, are designed to protect UHD video interface ports, USB Type-C connectors, and other high-speed data lines from various ESD, lightning and inductive transients. Working Principle

The MXSMCG170A devices feature an asymmetric dual-mode structure for enhanced ESD protection. The device consists of two back-to-back polarity Zener diodes that are connected in series with an N-channel FET. The Zener diodes provide a low operating voltage level for the device, and the low capacitance FET provides high performance protection from electrostatic discharge and other transients.

The MXSMCG170A has a large dynamic range, which allows it to handle multiple levels of ESD events. This device can absorb energy up to ±15kV for device contact discharges and ±30kV for air discharges, with very low clamping voltages and high surge current handling capability. The device suppresses remarkably fast, and it has very low capacitance, which allows it to maintain signaling integrity in high-speed data lines.
