The NCF2971MTT/T0E080J is an RF Access and Monitoring IC from the family of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Integrated Circuits (ICs) developed by NXP Semiconductors. This IC is based on the field of RF detection and access technology to enable a secure identification and authentication of near-field objects using various methods for identity assurance.
Using this IC, objects such as tags, cards, wristbands, and keyfobs can be identified and authenticated securely and quickly by communication between an RF transponder and a reader module. It supports multiple technologies which include ISO/IEC 18000-3 Mode 1, ISO/IEC 18000-3 Mode 2, EPC Gen2, ISO/IEC 14443 A/B, ISO/IEC 15693, and ISO/IEC29143.
The IC is incorporated with low-power Sleep Mode, and Wake-on-Radio (WoR) feature that functions to receive data from the Reader devices without consuming any power. This brings added convenience and allows readers to access data in a more energy efficient manner. In addition, the device has a selectable Sub-GHz frequency options that range from 2430 MHz to 2483 MHz, in steps of 10. It also has an OsziChip antenna for improved reception capability.
The IC also eliminates the need for a separate shield and ground plane, making accessibility far easier. This also helps reduce the antenna size, and in turn, the overall cost of production. With SPI, I2C, or BLE interface options, it is a highly efficient and convenient device to use.
In terms of its working principle, the IC is basically a two-way communication system. It has a transmit antenna that emits an RFID signal. When a Reader device receives this signal, it is able to decode the data and then process it according to predefined protocols. The data signal is sent back to the Reader device, which is then used to authenticate or identify an object.
The IC is also capable of reading several types of memory cards, including those based on ISO/IEC 14443, ISO/IEC 15693, and EPC Gen2. These cards can be used to store different types of data, such as photos, videos, audio files and more.
