NCN2500MNR2 is an integrated transceiver designed to meet the data rate performance requirements for 10Gbps applications. It is suited for use in Serial Optical and Electrical links affected by optical dispersion and stringent jitter tolerance requirements. The device includes a serial data stream pre-emphasis, a laser driver stage, a serial data recovery, clock recovery and jitter attenuator, as well as digital monitor and control of all parameter. The NCN2500MNR2 also supports bypass/Laser Off and Fault mode.

The NCN2500MNR2 is based on film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) technology combined with CMOS active components. It has a multirate operation with scalable capabilities implementing the SFI-4.1 and XFI serial electrical standards.Its small size, low power consumption make it a great choice for next-generation 10Gbps applications.

Working principle

The main components of the NCN2500MNR2 are a serial data stream pre-emphasis circuit, a laser driver stage, a digital monitor and control, and a clock recovery circuit. The pre-emphasis circuit amplifies serial data signals to control and shape the rise and fall times, reduce jitter and generate pre-emphasis waves that can be transferred over long cable lengths. The laser driver stage provides the laser transmitter power control and optics. The clock recovery circuit recovers the clock data based on the received data, using a phase-locked loop, and it also provides jitter attenuation function.

The Digital Monitor and Control consists of two parts: a TDEC/REEC monitor and a transmit and receive interface. The TDEC/REEC monitor monitors all the parameters that may be affected by optical link segmentation, like bit error rate, power, modulation quality and spectral flatness of the signal after the pre-emphasis. The Transmit/Receive Interface synthesizes the data for the laser driver stage, reads the data from the laser driver stage and provides control for the bypass/laser off and fault mode.
