PMIC (Power Management ICs) AC/DC converters and offline switchers can be used in a variety of applications, especially when it comes to the implementation of power electronic designs. Among the most popular power management ICs are those featuring the NCP1011AP100 integrated circuit, with its efficient and reliable control and protection capabilities.

The NCP1011AP100 is a highly integrated AC/DC or offline switcher controller ideal for isolated or non-isolated mid power applications. During operation, one of the two gates will turn ON, allowing current to flow through the device. The other gate will remain OFF until the ON gate reaches its peak value. When the ON gate reaches its peak current, the OFF gate will turn ON and current will flow from the OFF gate, reducing the impedance of the circuit connecting the ON and OFF gates.

When the OFF gate is ON, the current is drawn from the input power source and flows through the control circuit, the power MOSFETs, and the output capacitors. The MOSFETs will turn ON and OFF in order to provide the desired feedback voltage. At the same time, the current has to be regulated by the NCP1011AP100 IC. This regulation is achieved by changing the ON/OFF delay time and/or by changing the peak current.

The NCP1011AP100 ensures stable and reliable operation, even in harsh operating conditions, thanks to its dedicated fault-latch reset and power switch reset features. It features overtemperature protection, as well as an electronically controlled over-current protection system with programmable threshold and maximum pulse duration, allowing for dynamic load current protection.
