• Introduction

  NCP1230D65R2G is an integrated power management IC (PMIC) designed for offline flyback switched-mode power converter systems. This PMIC contains high and low side driver, power supply feedback, oscillator and voltage reference. It is designed to provide the true flexibility for a high performance, yet low cost and low total system cost (BOM) solutions. It is optimized for applications that require excellent high side drive and low power on/off control with minimum external components.

• Application Field

  The NCP1230D65R2G PMIC is compatible with a variety of common AC/DC power conversion solutions, such as universal AC input applications, systems where the AC voltage dips below the minimum voltage, low power (<50W) applications, and systems where the AC input is not present or not always present. This PMIC is suitable for a range of applications, including small and medium-power LED lighting, digital signage, industrial, medical, and consumer electronics. • Working Principle

  The NCP1230D65R2G uses a flyback topology to provide a compact, cost-effective power conversion solution. The primary side controller, the IGBT driver and the synchronous driver drive the power components to regulate secondary side output voltage, referred to as the power reference. The power reference and the PWM signals are generated and compared with the peak primary current sense signal. The difference of the two signals is amplified by the peak current control loop with the threshold set internally in the IC.

  As the output power changes, the synchronous controller adjusts the Duty Cycle of the PWM signal to maintain the predetermined output power. This PWM signal is used to drive the high-side and low-side drivers, activating the power parts such as FETS and IGBTs. The secondary side controller employs voltage loop with the feedback signal generated by the output transformer. The output feedback signal is compared to an internal reference voltage to regulate the output voltage. When the maximum voltage is reached, the controller shuts down the power device.
