The NCP1247AD065R2G is a high performance, low power offline Quasi-Resonant (QR) Controller specifically designed for compact Universal-Input Off-Line Power Supplies targeting low cost and low standby power applications. It features a unique Cycle-by-Cycle current limit protection supplying assured current sources. It is specialized to offer material cost reduction and minidip packages. It manages the Open Loop Resonance mode (QR mode) switch-mode power supply reliably with an adjustable dead-time auto-restart function, optimized to drive small switches at high frequency up to 100 KHz. An internal start-up timer prevents the initialization condition creating high in rush currents and it limits the time available for the device to enter in regular operation. It is also designed to maximize system efficiency by adapting Burst Mode® operations if needed. Advanced protecting and diagnostic functions are integrated to provide fault protection, long lifetime and high reliability.
The NCP1247AD065R2G AC DC Converter is designed to operate from a wide input voltage range from 85VAC to 265VAC or from 120 to 375 VDC. It works in the Offline Switcher circuit for very low power, low cost, and low standby power application requirements. It provides a very low cost and a reduced material count, making it the ideal choice for Battery charging, External Power Supply applications, Home Appliances, Lighting, Automotive Equipment and PC Peripherals.
The typical application circuit is made up of two main stages: switching power supplies and filters. After the rectifier, the FRM stage is made up of two power switches, connecting the line inductor between the input and output capacitors, depending on the needs. The first switch is connected with the freewheeling diode of the output filter. The other one is the main switch, which is activated when the internal control circuit turns ON the switch. The output current rises when the switch closes and the peak current flows through the inductor. A Zener diode is used to protect the output filter against overvoltage. The dead time provides a time gap between the turning ON of the main and freewheeling MOSFETs. Therefore, it prevents both ICs from current surge caused by the simultaneous opening and closing of switches.
To begin, the NCP1247AD065R2G is designed to operate from its AC or DC stage and to provide a soft-start service. When the converter is loaded, it accelerates the power transfer until the output voltage reaches a preset level at which the device restores its operating mode. The internal peak current sensing circuit of the AC/DC converter continuously measures the peak inductor current and turns off the main switch when the current limit is reached. After the peak current has been reached, the main switch is turned off and the dead-time generator (DTG) will start counting until the right point in time when the freewheeling switch is turned off and the main switch is re-enabled. This procedure continues until the output demand is met.
Additionally, the controller also supplies a wide range of fault protection functions as required by various safety standards, such as OVP, UVLO and OTP. The device is also designed to reduce system power consumption and provide burst mode operations if needed. It provides high efficiency and system reliability, long lifetime and high reliability. NCP1247AD065R2G converter can be used in battery charging, external power supply, home appliances, lighting, automotive equipment and PC peripherals applications.
