Working Principle

The boost converter uses an active power factor correction circuit to filter out ac rippling and adjust neutral-point potential. In the secondary stage, the NCP1280DR2 implements a standard Critical Conduction Mode (CCM) Flyback, wherein a single auxiliary winding is used to provide the required bias voltage for the aux winding transformer. During steady-state operation, the internal regulator ensures a fixed output voltage. For the under-voltage detection, the robust DC voltage regulation functions monitors the output voltage and shuts down the output if the voltage is lower than the set threshold.

A selectable burst mode operation allows for additional power saving at light loads, and can achieve up to 75% efficiency at light load conditions.
