NCP1377BD1R2G is a High Voltage Variable Frequency Offline Switch (VFOS) Controller. The device has an integrated high voltage switch for primary control (and optionally for post regulation) and also includes a wide range of protection features. It integrates a high voltage loop error amplifier, an on/off ramp compensation DAC, an oscillator, high voltage MOSFET driver and optoisolation. All of these are mounted in the same package.
As for the working principle, NCP1377BD1R2G is designed to provide highly reliable and efficient offline power conversion with a wide input voltage range and low voltage standby current (<1uA typ.). A high voltage regulator loop is used to accurately set and maintain the secondary side output voltage, while the high voltage switch is used to control the power delivered on the primary side (even with light-load conditions).
The device includes a Feedforward Compensation DAC that, through a single resistor, can be programmed to provide either CV/CC, CW or arbitrary waveforms on the primary side. The compensation DAC provides a high accuracy output, that closely follows the programmed waveform and eliminates the need for an external microcontroller for loop control.
Furthermore, the device also integrates high voltage loop error amplifier and on/off ramp compensation DAC for improved performance and a wide range of circuitry for protection and stability: A high voltage precision voltage reference (1.2V), overvoltage shutter, integrated output capacitor series resistance sense, ramp shaping filter, and optoisolation pins.
