The total quiescent current consumption of the whole regulator is typically less than 50mA when the Vin is 18.0V.The NCP1400ASN45T1 voltage regulator works on the principle of switching operations. It employs a topology known as buck converter that comprises of an inductor, capacitors, switch and diode. The device operates at a switching frequency of 1.2MHz.The working of NCP1400ASN45T1 voltage regulator is quite simple. Whenever the current passes through the inductor, the voltage switch turns on. This increases the voltage at the output node of the inductor and charges the output capacitor. When the inductor reaches set current, the switch turns off and the discharge of the inductor occurs by the diode connected at the output node.The output voltage produced by the NCP1400ASN45T1 regulator is then fed to the regulators\' error amplifier. The output voltage is compared to the reference voltage generated internally by the regulator. As soon a difference between the two voltages is detected, the error amplifier either turns on the switch or off, depending on the required output voltage.The device also has a thermal protection circuitry that works by sensing the temperature of the die and switching off the device when the die temperature reaches a preset limit. The thermal protection circuit can be enabled or disabled as per requirement.The NCP1400ASN45T1 voltage regulator also has an enable pin that can be used to enable or disable the device as per the requirement. The output voltage is adjustable with an external resistor divider.
