Working Principle
The NCP161AFCT180T2G is comprised of two main elements — a PNP transistor that eliminates the need for an external pass element and a precision bandgap reference. It operates by sensing any changes in the input voltage and adjusting its output voltage automatically to maintain a constant output. When the input voltage drops below the output voltage, the PNP transistor will be turned on and the output voltage will be lowered. This lowers the voltage drop across the PNP transistor allowing more current to flow from the input to the output. As more current is passed from the input to the output, the output voltage is restored to its original setting. Similarly, when the input voltage rises more than the output voltage, the PNP transistor will be turned off and the output voltage will be raised.Furthermore, the NCP161AFCT180T2G also provides short-circuit and over-temperature protection. The short-circuit protection circuit will sense when the output current is greater than the predetermined threshold and will reduce the current flow to protect the device.
