The NCP3063DIPBSTEVB is an evaluation board and switching power supply which falls into the broad category of DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. Genrally speaking, a switching power supply is an electrical power source that is designed to convert voltage and frequency from a DC source to AC output. This type of power supply is widely used in a variety of applications due to its efficiency and cost effectiveness.
The NCP3063DIPBSTEVB is a high efficiency non-isolated integrated switcher that provides a low cost use as it functions with high power density. It is specifically designed for applications that require high efficiency, low thermal stress and no external low EMI noise filters. This low cost, high efficiency converter can typically deliver up to 0.6A and features a wide input voltage range of 4.5-40Vin, adjustable output voltage from 10-32Vout and adjustable switching frequency of up to 250kHz. The input-output differential voltage is adjustable from 3V to 20V.
The NCP3063 is a single-ended quasi-resonant converter which incorporates a wide range of circuit protection features for fault protection. This includes load disconnection, input voltage disconnection, overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and overtemperature protection. Additionally, the board is designed to meet the radiated and conducted emissions requirement mandated by the European Commission\'s EMC directive.
The board features an on-board output inductor, which is used to reduce the output noise. The high power capacitor helps to absorb the peak power surges and minimize ringing. The on-board LED and flip-flop indicators provide visual indications of system conditions and system performance. Two pots and analog switch make up the user interface for selecting input voltage and output voltage as desired.
In terms of operation, the board employs a traditional control topology, consisting of a voltage mode control loop that is implemented as a single-ended quasi-resonant (SEQR) converter. For regulating the output voltage, the board uses a voltage-mode control, which monitors the reference voltage and compares it to the output voltage measured on the feedback line. This control loop then modulates the duty cycle of the main switch accordingly.
The NCP3063DIPBSTEVB is a switched mode DC/DC, AC/DC conversion board that is suitable for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), DC-DC power converters, embedded systems, computer peripherals, point-of-load (POL) or power adapters. It also can widely used in automotive, medical, industrial and consumer electronics applications.
