Application Field

Working Principle
NCP3163PWR2G boosts an input voltage up to an output voltage higher than the input voltage. It is a two-phase boost DC/DC controller, with two power N-channel MOSFETs connected in parallel. This implementation allows the NCP3163PWR2G to achieve a high output current. The NCP3163PWR2G includes a wide regulated voltage range, accurate, programmable switching frequency and pulse-by-pulse current limit protection.
The output voltage is regulated by controlling the duty cycle of the switching transistors, through the error amplifier. The output voltage is set by applying an external resistor divider from the output to the FB pin. The switching frequency of NCP3163PWR2G is adjustable and can be set by an external resistor connected between SF pin and GND. An internal oscillator generates the switching frequency and creates ripple current on the output.
An integrated, programmable pulse-by-pulse current limit protection circuitry compensates the current limit value. Moreover, an integrated low side MOSFET over-current protection helps to prevent failure in case of any overload conditions. When over-current or over temperature threshold is reached, the internal MOSFET is turned off.
