Working Principle

The NCP4671DSN09T1G is a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator withhigh precision and low noise. It features on-chip short-circuit currentlimiting, over-temperature protection, and an enable control pin. Thedevice is capable of providing 3 A output current at up to 5.5 V. Thedevice can regulate output voltages from 2.9 V up to 5.5 V with a lowdropout voltage of only 150 mV.

The device utilizes a series pass regulator topology that consists of anerror amplifier, a current source, a voltage source, and a pass element.The error amplifier compares an internal reference and the output voltageto produce an error signal. This error signal is used to control the passelement’s gate voltage and the output voltage is thus regulated.

The device also features an on-chip short-circuit current limiter andover-temperature protection, which provide a high level of protectionagainst faults and over-temperature operation. The on-chip thermalshutdown circuitry monitors the die temperature, and if the die exceedsits thermal limit, it shuts down the device and cuts off the load voltage.
