NCV3064PG Application Field and Working Principles
NCV3064PG, also known as an energy saving pseudo battery charger, is a voltage regulator with the ability to provide excellent load-sharing during high peak-load current applications. It is classified as a DC DC switching regulator and is mainly used for applications which require a high input current and require a fast response time. The advantages of using this DC DC switching regulator, include its high efficiency of operation, flexible power management and its ability to extend the battery life.
The NCV3064PG can operate from an input voltage of 4.5 V to 28 V, and can provide an output voltage from 0 V to 28 V. In addition to this, it has a wide range of output current capabilities, ranging from 0 A to 10 A. This makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, where it can operate as a DC-DC converter, power supply, battery charger or buck regulator.
The working principle of the NCV3064PG is divided into two parts - the active switch mode and the standby mode. When the regulated output voltage is below the defined value, the NCV3064PG will enter the active switch mode, where the output voltage is equal to the input voltage. On the other hand, when the regulated output voltage is at or above the defined value, the NCV3064PG will enter the standby mode, where the output voltage is maintained at minimal levels, to save energy and extend battery life.
The active switch mode of the NCV3064PG is composed of the four basic components - a P-channel MOSFET for high side switching, an N-channel MOSFET for low side switching, an error amplifier, and an oscillator. The P-channel MOSFET is responsible for switching the output voltage from high voltage to low voltage, whereas the N-channel MOSFET is responsible for switching the output voltage from low voltage to high voltage. The error amplifier is responsible for comparing the output voltage to the reference voltage, and the oscillator is responsible for controlling the frequency of current switching.
In the standby mode, the P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs are disabled and the oscillator is also shut off. This minimizes the consumption of power, allowing the output voltage to remain at minimal levels. When in standby mode, the oscillator will periodically “wake up” and check if the output voltage is below the defined value. If so, the P-channel MOSFET will be enabled and the NCV3064PG will then re-enter the active switch mode.
The NCV3064PG can be used in a variety of applications which require a high input current and a fast response time. It can be used as a battery charger, or as a DC-DC converter, or as a buck regulator. It has a wide range of output current capability, making it suitable for applications that require high input current and require fast response time. It is an energy-saving pseudo battery charger, hence its ability to extend the battery life.
