The NCV8800HDW75R2G is a member of the NCV8xx family of monolithic, step-down, DC–DC converters with integrated high-side and low-side switch.The device is designed for application with operating supply voltage up to 75 V and can deliver up to 200 mA of continuous load current.It is well suitable for automotive applications and offers high-noise immunity and protection functions like short-circuit protection, full thermal shutdown and open-load detect with power-good indication.

Working Principle

The NCV8800HDW75R2G is a monolithic switching regulator controller consisting of high-side and low-side MOSFETs and an error amplifier. The device works on the buck topology with a frequency of 2 MHz. The output voltage is adjustable by using the external resistor divider network and the feedback voltage. The design is integrating the high-side and low-side drive transistors into the same package, providing a smaller footprint and reducing the overall power dissipation.When the input voltage is higher than the regulated voltage, the high-side MOSFET will be turn on and the current will flow from input to output and the low-side MOSFET will remain off and the voltage will be dropped across the high-side MOSFET. During this on cycle of the switching frequency, the output voltage will be controlled by the error amplifier according to the external divider network and the feedback voltage.The device then goes into a low frequency, low-side PFM mode for minimum power loss when the current is low and the output voltage is close to the regulated voltage. The NCV8800HDW75R2G provides short circuit protection, over-voltage protection, thermal shutdown, open-load protect, in-rush current limitation, adjustable soft-start and ESD protection.
