The NCV887601BSTGEVB is a development platform and evaluation board optimized for designing offline AC/DC power supply circuits with the NCV887601 controller IC. This evaluation board allows easy evaluation and performance verification of the NCV887601 controller IC. Two versions of the evaluation board are available which employ either a quasi-resonant (QR) or a boundary conduction mode (BCM) Flyback topology. The evaluation board also contains a set of external circuitry on board; controlling circuitry such as Bootstrap, loop compensation, soft-start circuitry, and protection circuitry is provided on board.
The NCV887601BSTGEVB application field is excellent for consumer applications such as electronic lighting, small appliances and TVs by providing high efficiency and low standby secondary powers; implementing no-load standby current down to 30μA. An internal relay on the evaluation board can be used for light load/no load power switching.
The NCV887601BSTGEVB works on principle that combines the high-performance and efficiency advantages of the QR topology with the rugged latch-immune behavior of a BCM control scheme. The normal operation of the Flyback topology is enhanced with a QR dedicated control loop that maintains the switching frequency at a near-resonant point to reduce the switching losses. The on/off transistors survive their mission and maintain the highest possible system efficiency thanks to a dedicated over current protection circuit.
The NCV887601BSTGEVB includes two versions of the board. The NCV887601BSTGEVB/QR includes the primary side components that are necessary to implement the QR control, while the NCV887601BSTGEVB/BCM version of the board includes extending the PWM pin and enables the user to implement BCM mode for the device. The board is capable of delivering 75W of output power when biased at an input voltage of 230VAC. The NCV887601BSTGEVB has been designed with a full complementary set of features, such as; Cycle-by-Cycle primary current protection, Over Temperature Protection, Primary Over Voltage limits and After Breakdown Time protection. A wide range of operating protection thresholds, including the over current threshold, can be adjusted through APC pins.The NCV887601BSTGEVB evaluation board comes with a complete user guide document that explains how to operate the board and how to use the external circuitry for safety and dynamic control.
