TVS - Diodes provide transient voltage suppression, or TVS protection for sensitive electrical and electronic equipment. The NUP4105MUTAG is a next generation TVS diode specifically designed for protection of downstream data lines, such as USB applications. This TVS diode features high operating temperature range, low capacitance, and low clamping voltage.The NUP4105MUTAG is a mono-directional, bi-stable, low capacitance TVS diode. The device utilizes a dual foot-print, each providing an integrated protection level of up to 7.0V. The TVS can be connected to VDD or ground, and both devices can be connected in series to provide a protection level of up to 14.0V. The NUP4105MUTAG is an efficient way to protect data lines from electro-static discharge (ESD) and transients from electrical or mechanical stress events. The working principle of the device is relatively simple – it allows current to flow in one direction, while blocking current flow in the opposite direction. When the transient voltage exceeds the defined protection level, the diode conducts a large amount of current from the lightning source to the ground, clamping the voltage to a safe level. When the transient event passes, the voltage is restored to normal levels as the diode stores the excess current in the form of a charge.The NUP4105MUTAG TVS diode is suitable for use in USB signal line protection applications, which require very low capacitance and high power handling. The bi-stable nature of the device also helps maintain robust protection in extremely high-frequency events, such as during the USB power-on and power-off procedure.
