NUS3116MTR2G is a precise, low-power, wide input voltage and wide input current range, 12-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery charger solution in a single package with a minimum number of external components. NUS3116MTR2G is an efficient and reliable solution for rapidly and safely charging lithium-ion and lithium polymer batteries, and is ideal for applications such as notebook PCs, portable media players, and wireless handsets, pagers and other portable products.
Application Field
The NUS3116MTR2G is designed to charge 12-cell series Li-Ion/Polymer rechargeable batteries with a maximum voltage of 16-cell. It provides integrated linear chargers, switch mode power management, LCD control, AD/DA, WDI and Safety protection. With integrated linear charger and switch mode power management for Li-Ion/Polymer battery packs, the NUS3116MTR2G significantly reduces system size, cost and complexity. It is suitable for power sources up to 20V, making it ideal for low power applications, such as portable medical equipment, notebooks and printers.
Working Principle
The NUS3116MTR2G is a high precision, low-power, wide input voltage and wide input current range charger solution with a minimum number of external components. Its Power management and Protection IC can safeguards against overheating, battery overcharging, over voltage, over current, and reverse battery connection. The battery charge state is monitored every hour and then the Battery Charge State Machine regulates the battery charge process in order to maximize system safety and battery life. The device consists of an input voltage regulator, a linear charger, a PWM controller, a power MOSFET, an LED controller and a Battery Charge State Machine. The charge current is derived from the voltage difference of the input voltage and a voltage regulator output. For safety considerations, the battery temperature is monitored to avoid over-temperature damage. The device can be operated in pulsed current mode with a programmable frequency and duty cycle. The battery is charged with a constant current and then a constant voltage. The device can also provide four pre-defined charge currents so that the user can adjust the charging profile based on application requirements.
The NUS3116MTR2G is designed to charge 14.4V Li-Ion/Polymer rechargeable batteries with a maximum voltage of 17.28V. It contains an input voltage regulator, linear charger, PWM controller, power MOSFET, LED controller, auto-resume and safety protection. This charger can provide up to 12 times the power delivered by a single charging path and is capable of supporting up to 24 cells by adding additional cells to the master cell. The NUS3116MTR2G also includes an LM3914 precision voltage detector and a Battery Discharge Protection circuit which allows the device to be operated in either standby or sleep mode for extended battery life.
The NUS3116MTR2G enables fast and reliable operation of various Li-Ion/Polymer batteries. Its power management and protection ICs provide efficient operation and vital safety features such as over temperature protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout and reverse battery protection. With the built-in voltage detection circuit and Battery Charge State Machine, the NUS3116MTR2G can effectively optimize the charging process, improve device performance and maximize battery life.
