The OC075WH is a type of optical current sensor which is widely used in monitoring of electric power grids. It works on the principle of the Faraday effect, which in essence is the polarization of a light beam when it passes through a medium with an electric field gradient. The OC075WH utilises a newly developed optical current sensing scheme thanks to the Faraday effect.
This device is designed to be robust, reliable and require minimal maintenance. It features a dual redundant signal path design, offering the user superior reliability and accuracy. It is also compatible with a variety of Power Line Conditioners, allowing it to be used in high surge environment applications. The OC075WH includes over-voltage protection features that help protect operator’s investments in monitoring devices.
It is typically used for installation in high-reliability or safety-critical situations such as power transmission systems, distribution networks, and industrial environment. Furthermore, the OC075WH is particularly suited for locations and/or applications pertaining to hazardous chemicals and/or explosive environments.
The OC075WH operates within a range of 5 kHz up to 50 kHz input frequency, and offers two analog output currents from 2 mA to 4 A in the full scale range. It also offers three alarm outputs (low current, high current and over-voltage) for monitoring status and protecting the installation.
The optical current sensors of the OC075WH incorporates a Faraday effect transistor, a single-turn loop conductor, a non-contact current sensor and a temperature compensator. The Faraday effect transistor is the main sensing element which is used to detect changes in the electric field. The loop conductor serves as a voltage gradients detector, which can detect changes in the magnitude of the voltage gradient across itself in response to current. The non-contact current sensor is installed in the middle of the sensing loop. It calculates the current in the circuit without any electrical connection to the power line. Finally, the temperature compensator is a circuit designed to correct the output signal for changes in temperature in order to achieve the desired accuracy.
In conclusion, the OC075WH is a widely used and highly reliable current sensing device with applications in a wide variety of environments. It is highly sensitive and capable of accurately monitor and gauge the current in the power line in hazardous environments.
