The OPB480P11Z is a small and compact photointerrupter that provides a logic output to detect the position of objects. It is particularly suited for applications where minimal space is available.The OPB480P11Z uses an infrared LED and phototransistor pair to detect an object when initially passing through the gap or slot. It uses a traditional NPN open-collector output, which means that the load current must be sourced (sinked) from the output device and the load current must not exceed the rated current. Additionally, the input signal is usually coupled with an external resistor and capacitor to provide noise filtering, thus ensuring that the output signal is a clean one.The OPB480P11Z has an infrared LED and phototransistor coupled together. The LED transmits infrared radiation at the gap or slot. When the ball, pin, or other object passes through the gap or slot, the phototransistor senses the light and switches on, thus generating a logic output at the phototransistor’s output. The object\'s position is known by monitoring the output.The OPB480P11Z operates at a voltage of up to 16 VDC, has a response time of 1.8ms, and a frequency of 600kHz max. There is a 9.3mm gap between the LED and phototransistor on the OPB480P11Z, allowing the object to be detected in the gap or slot. The sensor has a maximum sensing current of 2.5mA, with a noise level of 10mV.The OPB480P11Z is a great choice for applications where minimal space is available, where beam alignment is not an issue, and where the object passes through a gap or slot.
