Optical sensors are devices that measure the visible or invisible light changes in the environment. Photointerrupters are a type of optical sensor that detect light movement and objects obstruction of the light path. Slot Type Logic Output photointerrupters detect a light beam interruption within a slit-shaped area in order to output logic signals. OPB491P11Z is such a device.
Application Field of OPB491P11Z
The OPB491P11Z is a slot type photointerrupter based on a switch output logic that is suitable for a vast range of applications due to its easy integration, small size (11.3mm in width) and light weight (0.85g). The use of the OPB491P11Z is especially recommended in positions where space is limited, such as in household appliances, auto controls and healthcare devices, where reliable and fast detection of objects passing through a light path is needed.
Working Principle of OPB491P11Z
The working principle of the OPB491P11Z photointurruptor is based on a timely interruption of light beams within a slit-shaped area. In its main configuration, the OPB491P11Z consists of an infrared emitter (LED) and a photo detector, both enclosed in a small plastic package with a built-in slitted aperture in between them. The LED emits infrared beams towards the slitted aperture, these beams are then interrupted by an object passing through the slit orifice, resulting in a decrease of the signal detected by the photo detector.
At this point, the output logic of the OPB491P11Z is triggered, which is normally a logic 0 output (high impedance state) when the signal detected by the photo detector is higher than the background interference. When this happens, the output logic becomes logic 1 output to indicate the interruption of the light beam.
Although a decrease of the signal detected by the photo detector triggers the output logic, the OPB491P11Z has a higher detection threshold which will not be triggered by light interference or weak light stimuli. This threshold value is also adjustable, to meet different needs. This, in combination with the fast response time and the high accuracy of this device makes this device an efficient and reliable photointerrupter suitable for a wide range of applications.
