Working Principle

The OPL536-OCA operates according to a photoelectric switching principle, whereby light shining directly onto a photosensitive element is converted into an electrical signal. A single photodiode is used as both the photosensitive element and the interrupter. An optical source (red light emitting diode LED) is used to illuminates the photodiode, when the light beam is interrupted, an Input Low logic is indicated and when the light beam is un-interrupted, an Input High logic is indicated. The photo detector’s logic output provides high speed switching in response to very low light levels (3x10-5 lux). The user can easily adjust the set-point for hysteresis window, to produce a hysteresis window from 2-50% of the peak photo diode current.
