The OPL550-OCA is an optical sensor photo detector designed to give a logic output when encountering light from a yellow source. This device is mainly used to sense when a light source, such as a car’s headlights, is present. • The LED embedded in the device emits light within the specified spectral range of 590 to 715 nanometers.
• The light then passes through a beam splitter and is reflected in two directions: towards an optical mirror, and outwards from the device.
• The mirror then reflects the light back into the device where it is incident upon the photovoltaic cell of the device.
• The photovoltaic cell will reverse bias and create a voltage drop. This voltage drop is registered by the integrated logic chip, which responds by activating the logic output.
