P4202AAL Application Field and Working Principle
The P4202AAL Thyristor is a high voltage, high current bidirectional trigger device specifically designed for use in the inefficient, high inrush load applications of medium and large scale power supply systems. It is an especially useful device in the line commutation of oil burners, electric furnaces, welding machines and lighting systems, as well as in contactless control and voltage regulation. By appropriately controlling the gate voltage of the P4202AAL Thyristor, line commutation can be easily achieved with just the trailing edge or leading edge of the mains voltage.
The P4202AAL\'s bidirectional trigger characteristics are due to the device\'s special construction, which consists of two PNPN elements connected in inverse series and several discrete components. By providing three levels of gate sensitivity, the P4202AAL is ideal for use in applications which require low gate current to turn on or off the device, thereby guaranteeing a high overall efficiency of the system. This type of thyristor can also be used in applications that require a longer turn-on or turn-off times, such as those of electric motors.
When applying the P4202AAL Thyristor, it is important to note that the initial current which flows in the application is limited by the sum of the peak forward blocking voltage and the on-state voltage of the device. This is due to the fact that the device is triggered by the transient in the applied voltage and current, so it is essential to apply a proper initial current to the device. The gate current should also be limited in order to keep the device from triggering with too high of a voltage.
When the voltage or current being applied to the P4202AAL is increased, the device turns on. As current further increases in the device, the device enters a forward conduction mode, which is characterized by a low on state voltage. Additionally, the P4202AAL is able to turn-off much faster than other types of thyristors, primarily due to its special construction. The device may also be turned off by either an increase or decrease in the applied current.
The P4202AAL Thyristor is designed for high voltage, high current applications. It offers bidirectional triggering characteristics and three levels of gate sensitivity, making it an ideal device in high inrush, inefficient power supply applications. With its overall low on-state voltage and fast turn-off time, the device guarantees high efficiency in the application.
