The P6KE250A-T is a high voltage surface mount transient voltage suppression diode. The working principle of the P6KE250A-T is to absorb the transient voltage or Surge energy, clamp the voltage to minimum specified values, prevent the device from being damaged from overvoltage and let the current in the protected load to continue to flow uninterruptedly.

The device works in the following three steps. First of all, when the surge begins to rear its heads, the P6KE250A-T diode will be able to absorb and dissipate the surge energy. This is achieved by a clamped structure, which moves the contact point between the anode and cathode to the right (for positive surge) to absorb the energy. Secondly, the forward voltage is held clamped during the energy absorbtion process. Thirdly, as the energy dissipates, the voltage begins to drop and the diode conducts the current during this time, allowing it to flow safely through the load.

The P6KE250A-T diode is also capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 175°C, making it suitable for use in extreme environments. It is also capable of providing ESD protection of up to 16kV.
