Power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is a key electronic component in many electronic systems, particularly for mobile devices as it effectively regulates, stores and distributes current to other electronic components. The P9015S-3AWGI is a specialised power management IC (PMIC) developed by the company Power Integrations in order to respond to the market’s current demand for power conservation technology. The buck stage integrates shunting and synchronous rectification in order to reduce power loss, while the boost stage provides an output voltage that is higher than the input voltage. In addition, it contains numerous advanced features, including current limiting and over voltage protection, to protect the system. The SEPIC converter is used to generate an output voltage that is either higher or lower than the input voltage.
The P9015S-3AWGI PMIC also features two LDOs with independent input and output voltage control options, dual phase slew rate control, and adjustable phase delay in order to minimise output voltage ripple. An integrated multiplexer is also available for selecting between the two LDOs as well as the external output. This feature allows the user to switch between two different output configurations very quickly, and is particularly useful for applications in which power consumption must be kept at a minimum.
In addition, the P9015S-3AWGI PMIC contains an array of power management features that are designed to reduce power consumption in portable applications. It supports high-speed spread spectrum frequency reduction to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) without compromising performance and also provides adaptive voltage scaling (AVS) control to maintain optimal performance and power efficiency. Finally, the IC supports multiple power saving modes and power gating to further reduce system power consumption.
