The FAN7318PMX IC is a particularly specialized power management solution specifically designed for LED driver applications. It is ideal for providing lighting solutions for LED-based products such as backlighting, display panels, and LED strips. Feauturing integrated current-mode control and overvoltage protection, the FAN7318PMX is a single channel, constant current LED driver that provides accurate current regulation.
The FAN7318PMX’s primary benefit is its low cost and minimal external component count. Its layout and functional architecture has been optimized to provide a high power factor, high efficiency and low EMI performance that’s perfect for LED-based products. The FAN7318PMX operates from an input voltage of 7.5 V to 15V, and can deliver LED currents of up to 350 mA.
The FAN7318PMX’s precision constant current control loop is able to maintain a very tight ±1.6% accuracy, even when operating at a high conversion efficiency. It also includes additional protections for shorted/failed LEDs and overvoltage/overcurrent situations to ensure the longest possible product lifetime. Additionally, an undervoltage lockout circuit disconnects the LED from the power supply whenever the input voltage level is too low.
The FAN7318PMX is controlled via the enable pin. With an EN pin low level, the FAN7318PMX can work in PWM mode or analog dimming mode for various applications. The frequency range for the PWM dimming is adjustable, providing flexibility for designers in matching the PWM frequency to their application requirements. An internal soft-start circuitry ensures a smooth power on/off experience and limits the over current during start-up.
