Single Conductor Cables (Hook-Up Wire)
Single conductor cables, also called hook-up wires, are insulated electrical cabling used mainly for low voltage signals and relatively low power applications, typically in the range of 0.2-12kV. They are usually composed of a central conductor material surrounded by a conductive such as copper, usually copper-clad steel, and covered with an insulating jacket, such as PVC or Teflon.
PBM0002 BK002 is a single conductor cable with a 0.2 mm² copper center conductor surrounded by a copper-clad aluminum jacket, which provides excellent conductivity and insulation properties. It is suitable for use in a wide variety of applications, from pro-audio to domestic lighting. The cable\'s insulation system and the high quality construction make it ideal for use in a wide range of demanding applications.
Working Principle
Single conductor cables like PBM0002 BK002 are based on the principle of electrical conduction. This conduction requires current to flow from one end of the cable to the other, so copper is used as the core material because of its high electrical conductivity. The core conductor is then covered in an insulating jacket material which will prevent unintentional contact between the conductor and external objects, as well as providing additional mechanical protection to the cable.
Once the core and jacket have been applied, the cable is wound onto a reel, in order to create looped bends and kinks that can be easily managed, and then cut to customary lengths. The face of the wire should be kept unbent, and its support elements protected from stress.
When the cable is ready, it is connected to a device that carries an electrical current. This current is then conducted through the copper core and then the jacket material, and the resulting signal can then be utilized for a number of purposes, such as in a light, a speaker, a mic or other electronic device.
Once connection is complete, the device must be powered up in order for current to flow through the cable. This current generates an electrical field around the conductor which induces an opposing voltage drop across its circumference, which is known as the voltage drop. This voltage drop prevents higher voltages from passing along the cable and can be used to protect against electric shock.
Finally, the jacket material will also act as a heat sink, transferring heat away from the core in order to protect it from thermal damage.
Application Fields
Single conductor cables offer many advantages, which make them suitable for use in a wide variety of industries and applications. These include:
- Computer and data networks
- Communications networks
- Microphone wiring
- Telephone wiring
- Power distribution
- Domestic lighting
- Automotive wiring
- Electronic components
- Medical equipment
- Broadcasting and radio
- Pro-audio
PBM0002 BK002 is particularly well-suited for use in pro-audio applications, due to its excellent insulation properties, its ability to cope with high ambient temperatures, and its robust construction, which ensures that it will last even when installed in demanding environments.
In conclusion, PBM0002 BK002 is a single conductor cable with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and insulation properties. Its uses are numerous and span from pro-audio to distributed power networks. The cable is suitable for a wide variety of applications and is a reliable choice for any installation.
