Optoisolators - Triac, SCR OutputAn optoisolator is an electronic component that encodes and transfers electrical signals across an insulation gap. Optoisolators are commonly used in industrial applications, as they provide isolation between the primary and secondary circuits. Optoisolators are most frequently used when there is a voltage or current differential between two circuits that can cause damage or instability in the system; this can include DC voltage to AC voltage or different phase voltages.The PC3ST11NSZDF is an optoisolator with a Triac output. It is manufactured by NXP Semiconductors and is designed as a high-speed, crest-operated output switch for ac power control. It was released in February of 2018. It features a central gate footprint and has a reinforced insulation structure. The PC3ST11NSZDF is designed for applications in consumer, industrial and white goods. There are a few features of the PC3ST11NSZDF that make it distinct in comparison to other optoisolators. First, it has a low power consumption of only 3.5 mA at 4.5V. Second, it has a low output current of 0.5 A. Third, it has a temperature range from −40 to +85 °C. Fourth, it has a minimum operating voltage of 10 V.The PC3ST11NSZDF is composed of two LED-operated couplings, a gate and a triac. The LED drivers are used to excite an integrating capacitor to generate a pulse width modulated output signal during any phase of the ac line cycle. The gate driver circuit is optimized such that two LED couplings have equal conditions.The Triac output operates with a power supply voltage of 10 V with a peak signal amplitude of 2V. A voltage across the LED couplings must reach the threshold voltage in order for the Triac output to turn on. Once turned on, the Triac output acts as a switch between the gate and the neutral line. The Triac output can switch up to maximum of 0.5 A current. The PC3ST11NSZDF is designed to be used in a wide range of applications. It can be used in motor control, fan speed control, light dimmers, appliance control systems, and more. It can also be used to control opening and closing of cooling systems, fluorescent tubes, and other AC powered lighting.
