Optoisolators - Logic Output: PC400 Application Fields and Working Principles
Optoisolators are components that allow two circuits to be electrically isolated from one another and maintain high immunity levels across a range of frequencies. Optoisolators can provide safety or performance related requirements, such as isolating low-level signals from a noisy environment or preventing a high-voltage power output from interfacing with a low-voltage system. The PC400 optical isolator series is a reliable, fast-transient response optoisolator featuring logic-output control.
Overview of the PC400 Series
The PC400 optical isolator series is a high-performance, compact package designed specifically for high-speed signal and power isolation applications. Typically, the PC400 series optocouplers are used in high speed, logic control systems, data communication and data processing equipment. They are designed to provide enhanced voltage/current isolation, low power consumption, and extremely low crosstalk for reliable timing synchronization. The PC400 optoisolators are available in various configurations including triac, MOSFET, logic, and PEN driver output.
The PC400 isolator provides an isolated input-output voltage rating of up to 30 volts and a current transfer ratio of 75 mA@5 V. Its response time is adjustable, with a rise time of 20 to 30 ns, and the operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. It is compliant with UL, CSA, VDE and CE safety standards, making it suitable for both industrial and commercial applications.
Working Principles of PC400 Series
The PC400 series’ working principle is based on the basics of optocoupler devices. This type of isolation works by using the optical properties of light for inter-electronic communication between two circuits. A light emitting diode (LED) inside the PC400 isolation module emits a beam of light that strikes a phototransistor inside the module. The phototransistor amplifies the light signal and transmits the signal through the output side of the module, thus providing voltage isolation.
The PC400 optical isolator also features logic output control. This feature allows for the signal to remain either high or low until the optical signal is sensed. This gives the optocoupler a faster response time than a standard optocoupler, enabling faster signal transmission and isolation noise rejection.
Applications of PC400 Series
The PC400’s reliable voltage/current isolation and fast-transient response make it an ideal choice for logic control systems, data communication, and data processing equipment. It can be used for applications such as motor controls, power supplies, medical instruments, and industrial controls. Furthermore, its logic input and output control makes it well-suited for high-speed signal and power isolation in active loads. Additionally, the PC400 series delivers protection from overvoltage on all inputs and outputs for improved noise immunity.
The PC400 series is a versatile optoisolator that is suitable for a wide variety of applications. Its fast-transient response time, high-voltage/current isolation, and wide operating temperature range make it an ideal choice for industrial, commercial, and residential applications.
