In the second mode, the pins are driven high regardless of the data value in the output register. In the third mode, the pins are driven low if the corresponding data bit in the output register is low, and driven high if the corresponding data bit in the output register is high. In the fourth mode, the output pins are driven high if the corresponding data bit in the output register is low, and driven low if the corresponding data bit in the output register is high.

In addition, the PCA9538DB can be used to control power supply to the system by driving an external power switch. This enables the switching of the power of the system to the different modules according to their requirements. Furthermore, the device can be used together with up to eight port expanders, allowing the connection of up to 64 I/O pins from the I2C bus. With the help of the external reset feature, the system can be reset without having to power it down.
