It is designed to extend the number of logical I/O lines of microcontrollers.It interfaces with all microcontrollers through a two-line I2C bus, and designed to operate as an expandable, Digital Remote System Management (DRSM) device. In this way, a number of PCA9621D,118-based modules can communicate together over a single I2C bus to extend the number of logical I/O lines and/or provide similar functionality of a single device across multiple locations.
The PCA9621D,118 includes 6 GPIOs with level shifters, allowing them to interface with voltages from 0 to 5.5 V. It has a wide operating temperature range from -40 to +125°C, allowing the use of led drivers outdoors.The PCA9621D,118 can be addressed as 1, 2, or 4 independent ports by using the 4-bit dip switch to set the slave address. Furthermore, it includes an Output Enable pin for power-saving, and an Interrupt pin, which can be connected to an MCU in order to inform host of GPIOs events.The PCA9621D,118 is able to support 1 million consecutive bus writes with no bus errors, which is ideal for applications with large data input.
