A pressure sensor, transducer, or pressure transmitter is a device which converts one type of physical quantity into another. Pressure sensors are commonly used for measuring the pressure of liquids, gases and vapors. The most common type of pressure sensor is the piezoelectric or semiconductor-based type. This type of sensor converts mechanical energy such as pressure into electrical signals.

PE-21N is a pressure transmitter designed to measure pressure of liquids, gases and vapors. It features a compact design for easy installation, excellent linearity and long-term stability. It is commonly used in pumps, compressors, pressure-regulators, pumps, injectors and other process-control applications.

PE-21N is composed of a sensing element, a signal conditioning circuitry and an output interface. The sensing element is often a strain gage, diaphragm, or other mechanical type. The strain gage is composed of a thin metal layer, usually of steel, aluminum or stainless steel. It is attached to a substrate such as a diaphragm or an electrolyte element. When pressure is applied to the strain gage, it changes its shape and electric current is induced in the sensing element.

The signal conditioning circuitry is composed of an amplifier, a linearizer, an integrator, a current-to-pressure converter, and power supply circuits. The amplifier converts the low-level electric signals generated by the sensing element into a large voltage signal that can be further processed. The linearizer is used to convert nonlinear signals into a linear form. The integrator is used to convert the output signals from the linearizer into a proportional voltage signal. The current-to-pressure converter uses an electric current to activate a piston or diaphragm, which in turn is used to convert the electric current into a corresponding pressure. The power supply circuits are used to provide power for the amplifier and the linearizer.

The output interface is composed of a transducer and a wide range of analog and digital signals. The transducer provides an output signal that is proportional to the pressure difference between the input and output ports of the pressure transducer. The analogsignals are sent to a display or control unit to provide a real-time indication of pressure. The digital signals can be used to control the flow rate of a pump or the level of a fluid.
