TVS – Diodes are components used in circuits designed to protect against a variety of over-voltage conditions. A TVS diode has two terminals – anode (positive) and cathode (negative). TVSs can be used in many applications including protecting equipment from high voltage spikes and surges. One type of TVS diode is the PESD1LINZ.
The PESD1LINZ has an extended temperature range and exceeds the ESD protection requirements of the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) and is compliant with JEDEC flow soldering standards. Its peak pulse power rating is 5.0 Watt at a 5/1000uSecond pulse width, making it one of the most powerful TVS diode options. The diode also has a low capacitance of 0.66pF (max), ensuring minimal signal distortion when used in high speed applications. It also has a low clamping voltage of 5.2V (max) at 8A, enabling it to protect delicate circuit components.
The PESD1LINZ is designed with two special operating principles which allow it to offer extreme protection from overvoltage surges and spikes. The first principle is the Avalanche breakdown which occurs when the junction voltage of the PESD1LINZ exceeds the breakdown voltage. The high forward voltage causes the electrons to gain enough energy in order to jump across the small gap in the diode junction and create an avalanche effect. This produces enough current to neutralize the overvoltage condition.
The second operating principle is known as Zener Breakdown. This occurs when the breakdown voltage is reached on the diode and the current flows through the junction while maintaining a stable voltage. This prevents further increase in the voltage across the diode and the overvoltage condition is neutralized. By combining these two operating principles, the PESD1LINZ is able to provide superior protection against overvoltage situations.
In addition to offering superior protection against overvoltage conditions, the PESD1LINZ is also well suited for a wide range of applications. It can be used in almost any type of system that requires surge protection including computer equipment, telecommunications equipment, and power systems. It also has low internal impedance, allowing it to dissipate large energies with minimal voltage spikes, ensuring efficient and reliable protection.
