PF322W9 is an ultra-low power, synchronous buck LED driver dedicated to driving up to 12 white LEDs in series. It is specifically designed for battery-powered applications and provides up to 95% efficiency. This driver is an integrated power-supply solution that provides step-down voltage conversion from an input battery voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V to produce a DC regulated LED current.The PF322W9 is available in three versions, each addressing a different application field:1) Buck type with Buck Current Regulation2) Boost type with boost Current regulation3) Buck/Boost hybrid type with current limit regulationThe PF322W9 buck type driver is specifically designed to drive up to twelve white LEDs in series with very little power loss. Its current regulation method makes it ideal for battery-powered applications. The driver has an adjustable LED current of up to 220mA. Using the buck current regulation method, PF322W9B can precisely regulate the LED current, enabling it to minimize the power dissipation from the driver to the LEDs.The PF322W working principle starts with a step-down DC/DC converter that converts the input battery voltage into a regulated output voltage. The output voltage is then regulated by the feedback circuit. The driver is enabled by driving the EN pin of the driver to high. Upon enabling, the PWM signal input will turn on and off the current source transistor of the buck converter. The current source transistor will be turned on and off based on the PWM signal controlling the average LED current. The feedback circuit constantly monitors the output LED current and adjusts the duty cycle of the PWM signal accordingly.The PF322W Boost type driver is specifically designed to drive up to twelve white LEDs in series with high brightness and low power consumption. Unlike the buck type driver, the boost type driver does not employ a current regulation method. It regulates the LED current by monitoring the output voltage of the boost converter. When the LED current increases, the output voltage of the boost converter will increase and the boost type driver will reduce the duty cycle of the PWM signal, thus lowering the LED current.Lastly, the PF322W buck/boost type driver combines the features of the buck and boost type drivers. It enables users to use an ultra-low power, synchronous buck driver with a current limit regulation. The current limit feature enables PF322W to regulate the LED current while still maintaining the desired voltage drop across the LEDs. This combination makes PF322W ideal for low voltage LED applications.
