If an over current condition through the fuse passes the over current detection circuit, the self-resettable device opens the positive temperature coefficient element, disconnecting the load from the circuit. This eliminates the problems associated with over current conditions, such as thermal runaway. Once the problem has been resolved, the self-resettable device will reset itself and the PTC resettable fuse will resume normal operation.

The PFLR.380 PTC resettable fuse is preferred for its stability over traditional fuses, because of its ability to continuously reset itself as well as its high current capability. It is also practical because the recombination of its two parts after being disconnected, allows for uninterrupted power supply.
