Evaluation Boards – DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS are a type of power supply modules used to convert an AC input to a regulated DC output. They are specifically designed to offer superior output voltage regulation and dynamic response to load changes. The PI3545-00-EVAL1 Evaluation Board is a Class-D off-line SMPS evaluation board that incorporates a MOSFET to achieve the high efficiency and excellent EMI performance of a modern power supply.The PI3545-00-EVAL1 is a fully featured Class-D SMPS evaluation board. It integrates an 8 kHz PFC controller, PI3545 and a low side gate driver, PI3HDX1204A. The MOSFET device (IRFI7441) employed to construct the output bridge is rated for inductive switching applications. A snubberless PFC rectifier, B84679IC, helps to achieve high efficiency over a wide input voltage range.The PI3545-00-EVAL1 Evaluation Board provides a PNP sense transistor to sense the current across the PFC MOSFET. It also includes optional balanced and unbalanced EMIFIL® EMI filters in the primary circuit to reduce external EMI emissions. The filtered output is based on a peak current mode control with a PI3545-00 providing the control loop and a PI3HDX1204A driving the MOSFET switches using cooperative dual loops. The PI3545-00 is a versatile 8 kHz peak current mode controller featuring programmable response to line and load transients, an integrated constant frequency current limit, and an integrated control loop slope compensation.As with all off-line Class-D SMPS solutions, the PI3545-00-EVAL1 Evaluation Board provides excellent EMI performance and high efficiency. It is particularly suitable for powering DC brushless motors in consumer applications, such as vacuums, air cleaners and automatic lawn mowing machines. It is also suitable for lighting applications such as LED bulbs, down-lights, and traffic signals.The main features of the PI3545-00-EVAL1 Evaluation Board are its wide input voltage range of 90-265V AC, its high switching frequency of 8kHz, and its integrated EMIFIL® filter technology. The board also allows for optimized response to line and load transients, and its cooperative dual-loop control makes it suitable for high frequency applications.
