PI3DPX1203ZHEX Integrated Circuits (ICs)

The PI3DPX1203ZHEX is a high speed bidirectional differential signal switch or splitter from Pericom. As an interface device, it operates as a signal buffer, repeater, splitter, and direction controller, enabling high speed data transmission. This device provides outstanding performance for point-to-point applications in which one differential input can be connected to one or two differential outputs depending on the status of the control input.

These devices are designed for applications in storage, computing and consumer/high-speed bus communications. This makes it ideal for applications such as digital video, Serial ATA (SATA), PCI Express (PCIe), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Fibre Channel and InfiniBand. This device offers the user an interface bandwidth of up to 12 Gbps and provides low skew signals suitable for high-speed data transmission.

This device’s working principle begins with input during which an input differential to a pair of differential 0.5V - 2.5V outputs is connected. These outputs are then capable of driving up to two devices. For one device, both outputs are connected to a single differential pair, while for two devices each output is connected to one differential pair. The PI3DPX1203ZHEX can automatically detect the attached device based on the status of the control line and its internal stimuli.

The PI3DPX1203ZHEX device also has a built-in band-gap voltage reference to provide both the dynamic output voltage and the master reference. The dynamic output voltage is used to ensure that the output voltage level is within the required tolerance for the application. This is accomplished by adjusting the voltage swing at the output stage of the device. This feature eliminates the need for external pull-up and/or pull-down resistors that are required by traditional switches.

The device also features very low power dissipation of approximately 650mW, making it more compact and efficient than other standard devices. Additionally, the device has a very low propagation delay time of approximately 5ns, providing fast switching. Furthermore, the PI3DPX1203ZHEX has very low voltage thresholds and low input leakage current, resulting in a high ratio of switching efficiency.
