PI6C2405A-1HLEX is a Clock/Timing – Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers device by PI (Pericom). This device is programmable Differential Clock Generator and is available in RoHS compliant, Pb-free QFN 10 pin package.
The PI6C2405A-1HLEX device has a wide range of applications from telecom through industrial, including network server and storage, instrumentation, medical imaging, test and measurement, multi-port switches, clock and data recovery, as well as timing and synchronization. With the right parameters, this device can be integrated into most kinds of applications.
When it comes to the working principle behind the PI6C2405A-1HLEX, it’s based on a differential PLL implementation to generate two LVPECL outputs, each at exactly the same frequency. It uses Digital Phase Frequency Detector (PFD) with Charge Pump and programmable divider to generate output frequencies. The PLL is capable of generating output frequencies from 1.5KHz to 160MHz depending on the input clock.
Its major benefits include: improved jitter performance, low jitter operation and increased clock stability; high frequency resolution; programmable output frequency for different applications; low supply voltage and power consumption; wide range of input frequency support; and flexible output configurations.
The PI6C2405A-1HLEX has three phase lock loop (PLL) registers to provide clock inputs. The first register, referred to as the reference PLL, accepts an external reference clock down to 1.5KHz. The second register, referred to as the first output PLL, accepts an output signal from the reference PLL and generates an output frequency by multiplying the reference signal. Finally, the third register, referred to as the second output PLL, accepts an output signal from the first output PLL and generates an output frequency by multiplying the first output signal.
The PI6C2405A-1HLEX also features a FlexibleDivider that allows the user to configure the part to operate in Fractional or Integer mode. In Fractional mode, the user can select the output frequency by setting a portion of the input clock frequency. In Integer mode, the device can be programmed to divide a given input frequency by an integer value. This provides a way to capture and generate low frequencies from a high frequency input.
In order to ensure that the device is operating in its designed parameters, the PI6C2405A-1HLEX has a built-in self-test feature that allows the user to access the performance of the device. This feature utilizes a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and a Tail Loss Monitor to measure the jitter and phase error of the device. Additionally, the device provides an AutoHop function to assist the user in tuning the internal circuits for optimum performance.
ThePI6C2405A-1HLEX also has full line and load process compensation capabilities. This provides the user with the ability to maintain the tightest jitter and phase margins possible over the full temperature range of the device. It also allows the user to select the best output startup conditions for the system.
