The PIC24FV is based on a 16-bit general purpose microcontroller core. It uses a 16-bit instruction set that provides instruction lengths of 8 bits, 16 bits, and 32 bits for use in programs. The instruction set is enhanced by a set of supplementary instructions that can be applied to instruction fields to improve the performance of microcode execution. In addition, the device supports Harvard architecture, implying that code and data are stored in separate memory spaces that are non-overlapping, which makes the device accelerate critical data accesses.The PIC24FV combines these microcontroller elements with a set of peripherals and memory.
