Solid State Relays (SSR) provide a simple and space-efficient means to control a wide range of loads, including motors, lights, and pumps. The key to understanding Solid State Relays is to understand the components of the relay. The key advantage of Solid State Relays is that they have a long life expectancy. With proper selection and application, a PM1204 Solid State Relay can last more than 10 million switching cycles. This is far higher than the typical number of cycles a mechanical relay can provide. Also, because of their solid-state construction, solid-state relays are much more resistant to external disturbances such as vibration, shock, and EMI.
