PR3BMF11NSZ solid state relays belong to a type of electrical switching device which uses a semiconductor device to perform switching instead of mechanical relays. This type of solid state relay is particularly suited for applications that require virtually maintenance-free operation over a wide temperature range and long life expectancy.### Working PrincipleThe PR3BMF11NSZ solid state relays use optically isolated input and output to achieve galvanic isolation of the load from the input control circuit. The input of the SSR is typically an LED which requires a certain current for its drive and operation. This current is provided by the control circuit which applies a control voltage across the input terminals of the SSR. The LED responds to the control voltage by emitting infrared light which is sensed by the detector circuit in the output section of the SSR. The detector circuit follows the state of the LED and actuates a triac, triode or an SCR which is the output switch of the SSR.If the LED is off, then the detector circuit detects no light and the output switch is not actuated and the state of the output switch remains off. When the LED turns on the detector detects this and in turn actuates the output switch which enables the output load. During the operation of the load, an arc may develop which renders the contact very fragile and must be prevented. This condition is generally known as arc degeneration.
