Proto-USBdevKit is an open-source development board based on the USB (Universal Serial Bus) communications protocol. Compatible with any type of USB-enabled device, the Proto-USBdevKit allows design engineers to create, prototype, and evaluate custom circuits for embedded systems.
The Proto-USBdevKit is a versatile development board designed to enable engineers, students, and hobbyists to develop and test USB-enabled embedded systems. It is based on Atmel’s AT90USB family of USB MCUs (microcontroller units) and includes a range of separate sub-cards for various functions. Each sub-card can be plugged into the board independently and are powered by a USB connection. These sub-cards come in various types such as sensors, display, power or communication types that cover the wide variety of application needs.
The application field of Proto-USBdevKit is varied and can be used in almost any field requiring USB-enabled devices. It can be used for designing standalone computer peripherals, automation or entertainment systems; for harvesting energy from a variety of sources; or for creating devices for monitoring and controlling remote locations. It can also be used for medical applications such as controlling robotic surgery and controlling the environment of medical labs. Its diverse functionality makes the Proto-USBdevKit suitable for virtually any embedded systems engineering project.
In addition to the application field of Proto-USBdevKit being varied, its working principles can also be divided into two different parts, namely the physical layer and the data link layer. At the physical layer, data is encoded onto electrical impulses and transmitted over a physical medium. At the data link layer, these electrical impulses are further organized and formatted into packets of data. These packets of data are then sent along the USB protocol for proper identification and routing, and are sent to its intended destination.
To further explain the working principle of the Proto-USBdevKit, let’s consider a basic example of an embedded system. Imagine a device connected to a computer using USB. The device can sense changes in the environment or receive user input from a physical button. In this case, the Proto-USBdevKit is used to guide the data flow from the device to the computer. At the physical layer, the data is encoded onto electrical impulses and sent over a physical medium. At the data link layer, the electrical impulses are further organized and formatted into packets of data according to the USB protocol. The data is then transmitted to the computer where it is identified and processed.
In conclusion, Proto-USBdevKit is a versatile development board designed for engineers, students, and hobbyists to develop and test USB-enabled embedded systems. It is compatible with any type of USB-enabled device and enables the user to create, prototype, and evaluate custom circuits for embedded systems. In terms of its application and working principle, the Proto-USBdevKit is useful in virtually any field requiring USB-enabled devices. Its working principles can be divided into two parts, namely the physical layer and the data link layer, where data is encoded onto electrical impulses and formatted into data packets.
