The SCR is responsible for providing the low power control of the triac, whereas the triac controls the on/off state of the relay. The SCR acts as an electronic gate that opens and closes, allowing the triac to control the switching of current. In order to actuate the SCR, a control circuit is required to provide the necessary power input. The control circuit consists of a control terminal, an optically-coupled isolator, and a RC snubber circuit.The control terminal is used to supply a low power signal to the optically-coupled isolator, which drives the gate of the SCR. When the signal is an on/off type, the optically-coupled isolator provides a change in the low power input to the SCR gate. This signal causes the SCR to turn on and off, and thus enables the on/off switching of the relay.When the optically-coupled isolator switches on the SCR gate, the low power RC snubber circuit becomes active and limits the peak voltage across the SCR’s gate. This allows for smooth switching of the triac and prevents damage to the device due to spikes in voltage.The PS7241-2A solid state relay is a versatile device and can be used for a wide variety of applications.
