Working Principle

This process allows the two sides to be isolated, while still ensuring the integrity of the digital logic signal.

The PS9601 is available in two different physical packages, one with an integrated LED (light-emitting diode) and one with an integrated photodetector. The device can be implemented in either an open-drain configuration or a CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) type configuration. In open drain configuration the output is an open collector device, meaning that the logic state will be either an ON (high) or an OFF (low), whereas in CMOS type configuration an intermediate logic (1.5 voltage) level is added.

The PS9601 provides significant advantages over traditional electro-mechanical isolators such as lower power consumption, less crosstalk, better EMC performance, and faster response times. The device operates from a wide range of supply voltage (3–18 VDC), with an operational temperature range of –30 to +85°C.
