PT3109A

DC/DC converters are electronic components that convert a DC input voltage to AC or DC at a different voltage level. Beginning from a basic description, the working principle of PT3109A can be explained as following. Firstly, the incoming DC input voltage is converted into a higher DC voltage by using a synchronous rectifier, and a buck converter follows. The output voltage of the buck converter is then adjusted by changing the duty cycle of the pulse width modulation control. This duty-ratio control is provided by the BUCK/PD pin in the external circuitry. The output capacitor smoothen out the ripple current, and finally produces the desired voltage at the output.

As mentioned,PT3109A is mainly designed for low-power applications.It is able to supply 1.2A maximum output current and up to 400mV adjustable output voltage with an efficiency up to 96.5%. The low operating frequency of 4 kHz guarantees no-load input current of 20mA or less.
