The PTH12030WAST DC-DC converter implements a switched-mode power conversion technique. At its heart is a buck-boost converter, which charges a resonant inductor at its peak current, and then change the output by controlling the energy transfer from the input to the output. It also uses a derating scheme — when high power is required, the load is lowered or the frequency is reduced — to ensure that the converter is not overloaded.

The PTH12030WAST is an active power factor correcting device, which eliminates the need for an external step-down transformer. It has built-in digital signal and protection circuitry which provides a high degree of protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and over temperature.
