PTC Resettable Fuses, commonly referred to as polymeric thermal cut-off (PTC), are solid state electronic components which are used to protect electrical circuits from over-temperature and overload conditions. The PTC Resettable Fuse PTR060V0025-TR1 is specifically designed for protected circuits over current and temperature protection.

The PTR060V0025-TR1 fuse contains a permanent magnet which enables a current surge or a short circuit to be detected, subsequently cutting off the current flow automatically. On reset, the permanent magnet allows the fuse to re-close. Each PTC Resettable Fuse has been individually tested to guarantee safety and performance.

The PTR060V0025-TR1 resettable fuse works in two main stages. Initially, it works by sensing a small current flow that is well below the rated current. This current flow creates a magnetic field that starts the resistance of the resin to heat up. The second stage is initiated as the fuse gradually stops the current flow when the current rises to a pre-set level, which is well above the usual working current.

The PTR060V0025-TR1 resettable fuse offers protection over a wide range of applications. Its broad temperature range of -55°C to 135°C makes it suitable for applications operating in a wide range of ambient temperatures. The construction of the PTR060V0025-TR1 PTC Resettable Fuse is comprised of a pair of copper strands, wrapped around a thermally sensitive damping mixture composed of ceramic particles, resin and an irreversible redox system. When current passes through the copper strands, an electrical field is created, which causes a molecular shift in the damping mixture and increases the temperature along with the resistance of the thermistor. When the pre-set temperature is reached, current flow is cut off, breaking the circuit.

The advantages of using PTC Resettable Fuses are numerous. They are highly reliable and only require simple mounting, requiring no additional cost for installation. When current is interrupted due to over-temperature/overload conditions, the fuse will immediately reset itself, allowing the equipment connected to the circuit to be re-started without changing the fuse.
