PVA1054 Application Field and Working Principle

Solid State Relays (SSRs) provide contactless control and circuit isolation, with low power consumption and higher reliability than traditional mechanical relays. The PVA1054 is a 4PDT type miniature solid state relay product, designed to switch low power AC and DC loads.

This product has several advantages, such as low electrical noise, extremely fast switching (dv/dt: 600V/μs typ.), withstanding a high surge current per contact (2.1A max.). Also, the PVA1054 features an excellent insulation system (2500VAC/1minute) and operation is highly reliable, with a maximum temperature rise of below 30°C in the switching area.

Application Field

The PVA1054 solid state relay is mainly used in the following application fields:

• Lighting systems, such as dimming, traffic signal control, channel control, building lighting control, medical sterilization equipment.
• Industrial & Process automation, such as motor control, HVAC, temperature & flow control, food processing, weighing scale and test & measurement equipment.
• Safety systems, such as fire control systems, access control, emergency stop.

Working Principle

The PVA1054 is a 4PDT type SSR with 4 sets of double-pole double-throw relays inside. Each SPDT relay includes one normally open (NO) contact, one normally closed (NC) contact, and one common (C) contact. Its working principle is that when a control signal is input to its terminal, there is a closed circuit between the C contact and either the NO contact or the NC contact.

For example, when a logic “1” signal is input to the PVA1054, an induced current will flow through its coil, generating a magnetic field. This magnetic field will cause the armature to be attracted and close the contact between the C contact and the NO contact. Once the current is interrupted, the armature will be released and open the contact between the C contact and the NO contact.

In addition to featuring a closed circuit between the C and the NO contact, the PVA1054 also provides a built-in snubber-diode circuit for protection, during either turn-on or turn-off procedure. The snubber-diode circuit helps to reduce overvoltage and abnormal noise, making the product more reliable and longer its lifespan.
